Sadie Brockbank

Sadie completed a Fine Arts degree at Falmouth School of Art in 1987 and continued to develop her work in London. Her college work was an exploration of painting and collage, becoming increasingly three dimensional over the course of the three years. After leaving college, she quickly moved towards sculpture, including fabric, clay and bronze.

Initially Sadie’s work expressed her interest in the connection between human beings and animal species, an expression of the common origin of things, and the sharing of substance across the universe. As the forms and ideas developed the components of the pieces - the animals and the anthropomorphic figures- became her attempts to play with and explore questions about lie, about the world and her place within it.

In some pieces she hopes to convey a sense of inter-dependence, many parts in a state of co-operation, and the feeling of a question in motion. The figures are travelling with the intention towards their purpose, uncertain of where this may lead them, but nevertheless, taking that essential step into the dark.
