Stephanie Davies-Arai

Stephanie graduated from a postgraduate course on Advanced Sculpture at St Martins College of Art in London and went on to work as an artist with a number of orchestras including the London Philharmonic. A move to Japan in 1986 helped her to develop her work even further to the extent that a number of pieces appear both in public and private collections in Japan. Stephanie was awarded two prestigious prizes for her marble sculpture while she was there.

On her return to the UK her subject matter concentrated on the female body where she creates infinitely smooth polished surfaces complimenting an increasingly abstract simplicity and pureness of form.

Although Stephanie is adept at carving in a number of materials including many different types of wood and marble she has recently concentrated on using York, Portland and Bath stone. Her work is suited to both outside and domestic environments and can be increasingly seen at exhibitions in sculpture parks and gardens throughout the UK.
