Every few weeks we spotlight an individual artist within our portfolio. For the next few weeks the spotlight will be on Erin Burns.

Erin Burns graduated with an MFA from New York University in 1997. After several successful shows in her native San Francisco where she is also represented by the Andrea Schwartz Gallery, she moved to the UK and last year was awarded a one year residency at the Florence Trust Studios in Highbury, North London.

Her work involves delicately painting and marking the surface of a photograph taken in a natural environment such as ferns on a forest floor in Red Sky Revealed which is then mounted on board or aluminium and then covered in multiple layers of viscous resin polymer.
Applying the resin to the photograph and the removal of air bubbles trapped between surfaces is a difficult process requiring intense heat. The additional risk that once the resin is applied it cannot be removed gives a vibrancy to each piece of work. The viewer appears to be looking through a translucent solid where textures, layers and imagery converge. Erin’s work lends itself not only to individual works but also to diptychs and triptychs. Commissions can be created for site-specific work such as corporate environments or larger rooms.
